Meet the Director Nominees for 2020

Peter Buckley

MBA, B.Com, GAICD
Peter is an experienced senior executive and general manager who has held roles in ASX, private and membership owned organisations across the engineering, health, aged care, education and community sectors. Peter is currently the General Manager for NEPEAN Engineering & Innovation, an award-winning company with over 120 employees in the Macarthur, and part of a global business of over 1500 employees worldwide. Peter's experience includes strategic leadership, customer experience and organisational culture.

Peter has proudly served The Mac as a director since 2018. He is the Vice President of Douglas Park Little Athletics Club, Company Director and Vice President of the Illawarra Connection, member of the Salvation Army Illawarra Advisory Board and Non-Executive Director and Company Member of Warrigal Aged Care.

A lifelong resident of the Macarthur region, and along with his family Peter values community service and the significant opportunities presented in the Macarthur Region.

Ashley Jennings

A board appointed director of The Mac since January 2020, I am currently a member of the Audit and Governance committees. 

In addition to director roles with The Mac, Transaction Solutions and Karpaty Foundation, I have been a company director with Credit Union Foundation and Australasian Mutuals Institute.

I enjoyed 12 years as Chief Executive Officer of Sydney Mutual Bank (formally Sydney Credit Union) and in 2010 I was awarded the Customer Owned Banking Association (formerly ABACUS) Distinguished Service Award in recognition of my contribution to the Australian credit union industry.

Being a passionate and energetic advocate of the Mutual banking sector, I hold advanced Diploma's in Accounting and Management and experience in executive management and leadership, working specifically in finance, strategy, risk management, corporate governance, Information Technology and audit and compliance. 

I have been an active participant in community organisations for most of my working life, including the former Trustee/Director of the not-for-profit Australian Development Organisation CUFA (formally known as the Credit Union Foundation Australia), delivering economic development, education, enterprise and employment projects domestically and across the Asia Pacific and current Treasurer and Director of Karpaty Foundation.

Phillip Rankin

As a long-term resident of the Macarthur region I have contributed to many local community groups, activities & local businesses.

I have wide-ranging business finance experience across a broad range of business, hold formal accounting & finance qualifications and have extensive board knowledge & involvement having been a previous director, committee chairman of The Mac for 21 years, Macarthur Diversity Services & currently director & committee chairman of North Sydney Retirement Trust.

My commitment to The Mac spanned 21 years from 1995 to 2016 & during this time I contributed to and was involved in the major re-branding of the credit union to ensure that The Mac had a bright future. This has proven to be a very important strategic step forward for growth, relevance & continuity & I am very proud of this major enterprise.

While I acknowledge my previous commitment to The Mac it is the exciting future that interests me most and I am looking forward to making a purposeful commitment to the future. I have always had & will continue to have a strong connection to The Mac & continue to serve the Macarthur community. 

Tony Schesser

Tony Schesser is an experienced CEO and Director, well connected at senior levels across multiple sectors including the Australian and US cooperative banking industries, affiliated industry service and fintec providers, professional firms, and the Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority (APRA).

Tony's professional experience has been gained within the mutual banking and insurance sectors, including multiple years with industry associate COBA, and most recently as CEO of the industry professional development organisation Instil. Tony also brings Insurance sector experience from his time with NRMA and AMP (prior to their respective demutualisation).

Tony's core competencies include experience in working with Boards and senior management in the development of strategic and business plans; strong awareness of market forces that continue to impact on customer owned banking; research and analytical skills; knowledge and understanding of the financial services sector regulatory regime; exposure to Fintech, industry technology, and core banking system fundamentals; and a comprehensive knowledge of the culture, systems, and workflows in place within mutuals.

Tony now runs a private consulting practice serving a niche market within Australia's Customer Owned Banking Sector. Tony's educational background includes a Masters of Business Administration from Charles Sturt University, in addition to an Advanced Diploma gained in HR Management.
